Structured Cabling

Structured cabling is rapidly advancing to meet the ever increasing user demands for higher bandwidth applications, as users get accustomed to streaming content from the internet or over internal systems the demands on network bandwidth is under constant pressure and with future demands looking to increase exponentially businesses are looking at ensuring that their structured cabling is future proofed.

Although many companies are fortunate enough to have existing Cat5 or Cat5e cabling in place in their premises new installations or refits are having to look to future bandwidth requirements as a structured cabling installation is not only expensive but very disruptive to a business that most companies would like to ensure that they will only have to cable once.

Today companies when refitting or adding additional cabling as standard will install Cat5e cable which will give them up to 1gbps to the desk which is still cost prohibitive to 99% of companies to deliver to desk these types of speed. Although with computers and Moores Law (Computer double capabilities every 18months) network speed increases by approximately 50% annually which will see internet usage at 2gbps for users by 2020 which is twice as quick as Cat5e or Cat6 is able to deliver, since most structured cabling comes with a 25year guarantee companies are starting to look and ask for 10 – 100 times the speed to desk which Cat6a (10Gbps), Cat7a (40 – 100Gbps), Cat8 (TBD) and the latest Fibre are able to provide these new bandwidth requirements.
